BB&T WEALTH RETURNS AS PRESENTING SPONSOR; PROCEEDS BENEFIT THE KEVIN HARVICK FOUNDATION

Kernersville, N.C. (May 20, 2012) – NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Kevin Harvick will warm up for this weekend’s 600-mile race with 18 holes of golf for a good cause.

Harvick and wife, DeLana, will host the Kevin Harvick Foundation’s fourth annual John Paul Linville Memorial Golf Classic Presented by BB&T Wealth on Wednesday, just days before he competes in Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Proceeds from the tournament, held at Sedgefield Country Club, home of the PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, N.C., benefit the Kevin Harvick Foundation, established in 2010 by the Harvicks to enrich the lives of children across the United States. Funds raised go toward the Kevin Harvick Foundation’s efforts to support local programs for children in foster care, P.O.W.E.R. of Play, Kevin’s Krew and the Kevin Harvick Athletic Scholarship, awarded to a collegiate student athlete at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and California State University-Bakersfield.

Linville was DeLana’s father, a Kernersville, N.C., native who lost his 20-year battle with cancer in 2005 and serves as the inspiration for the tournament and the Foundation’s spirit of servitude.  A former NASCAR driver and avid golfer, Linville was integral in local charity golf tournaments.

“No one has ever accused me of being a golf ace, but I love the time I spend on the links raising money for the Kevin Harvick Foundation and the many underprivileged children this event serves,” Kevin Harvick said.  “The tournament is one of the most special days of the year for DeLana and me.  Playing golf to help children -- John Paul wouldn’t have had it any other way.  This round is for him and all the kids.”

The tournament is made possible with the support of BB&T Wealth, SPEED, Sprint, Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, Hunt Brothers Pizza and TCDi.  Wednesday’s tournament is one of three Kevin Harvick Foundation events scheduled throughout the year.  Also slated in 2013 are the Kevin Harvick Foundation Pro-Am at the Wyndham Championship and Happy’s Classic Golf Tournament in Bakersfield, Calif.
