Kevin’s Krew - Richmond

03/30/11

Kernersville, N.C. (April 26, 2011) – The Kevin Harvick Foundation, founded in 2010 by NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Kevin Harvick and his wife DeLana, kicks off its second year by welcoming a group of very special guests Saturday, April 30 at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway. Fifty youth from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond will be part of Kevin’s Krew this weekend. The special guests will meet the Harvicks and get a behind the scenes look at the world of NASCAR.

Kevin’s Krew is an at-track outreach program for at-risk students intended to expose them to the fast world of racing. These children see by example that hard work, following your dreams and a drug-free lifestyle can be extremely rewarding. By showing them that there are people who care, the students are given hope that allows them to stay focused and work hard, despite social and economic misfortunes. Proceeds from the sale of the DeLana Harvick “I Wear the Firesuit in This Family” t-shirts have made this day at the Virginia race track possible for students who otherwise might not have the opportunity to do so.

During the Richmond Kevin’s Krew event, one participant will be awarded with a $500 Kevin Harvick Foundation Chase Your Dreams Scholarship. Applicants for the scholarship are asked, “What is your dream?” and “How will this scholarship help you achieve that dream?” The criteria include financial need, creativity and impact. The Foundation will select the winner, and Kevin and DeLana will present the scholarship to the recipient in Richmond’s Victory Lane on Saturday.

“DeLana and I both are really looking forward to having these kids join us this weekend,” said Kevin Harvick Foundation co-founder Harvick. “Through all of our fans support in buying the firesuit t-shirts and with the support from the track and the NASCAR Foundation, we’re able to bring them to Richmond International Raceway for this unique experience. The Kevin’s Krew and Chase Your Dreams Scholarship programs are both very important to us and we hope these kids not only have a great time but learn something new and come away from the experience inspired to chase their dreams.”
